Choreography: Angelin Preljocaj
Music: Gustav Mahler
Costumes: Jean-Paul Gaultier
Set Design: Thierry Leproust

French choreographer ANGELIN PRELJOCAJ explores and reinvents the fascinating tale of the Grimm Brothers’ "Snow White" through a contemporary romantic ballet that has already attracted more than 150,000 spectators in France. The brilliant symphonies of Gustav Mahler surround the twenty-six dancers dressed in costumes designed by the ‘enfant terrible of fashion’ Jean-Paul Gaultier.

From the wonderful “pas de deux” to the dwarves’ acrobatic steps as they emerge from a troglodyte vertical wall, the choreographer offers an inspired interpretation of this classic. The richness of symbols throughout the tale such as the omnipresence of desire and the ineluctable power of time are incarnated in the iconic character of the devilishly wicked stepmother. “The understanding of symbols belongs to adults as well as children, and that’s why I like fairy tales”, says Angelin Preljocaj.

After making its premiere in September 2008 at the Biennale de la Danse de Lyon in France, the show received a Crystal Globe for the Best Dance Show of the Year in 2009.
