“It is very important for me as a sculptor to work around themes which move me. Nietzsche’s quote was the impetus of this new series: “you must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star.”
A first sculpture was born in relevance to this quote, it was entitled ‘Chaos’.
Then, spontaneously, more sculptures saw the day with this idea of a star vanishing like a dream, like a hope one wishes to reach. Very quickly I realised that people identified with my sculptures and could see themselves in their characters.”

Laure Simoneau

The French artist, Laure Simoneau, otherwise LoR, has succeeded an impressive reconversion from social therapist to the professional full-time artist. Laure Simoneau is an “ironwireist” as she defines herself. An autodidact, the only training she has followed was about art welding process to improve her skills, Laure Simoneau is today one of the leading French wire and shadow artists.
With a natural and exquisite ability, a well-studied technique and a rich imagination, Laure Simoneau has been creating a wonderful collection of wire and shadow sculptures. Born from past and current emotions, the wire sculptures of Laure Simoneau are full of warmth, an astonishing opposition to the coldness of iron.
Following the idea of her new topic “My Lucky Star”, some people were pleased with the existing figures, others asked LoR to work around themes which were dear to them.
Since then, she sculpted numerous stars and many of them were given as presents.
It is in this very dynamic that she would love to propose and pursue this series of sculptures in Hong Kong as part of the ‘French May’; perhaps a way for her to create her own star shooting towards Hong Kong and to be a character following it…

Sculptures

Though the medium is as simple as an iron wire, the procedure is delicate and well-studied. The iron wire is first hammered in order to get its final shape and then, the silver welding’s work starts with a lot of meticulousness. The uncluttered aspect of her creations comes from the fact that she tries to use the less wire as possible, the cause: Laure Simoneau is more interested by the blank space. The wire only serves to delimit a blank space and to give him a real consistence.
Among her various artworks, many are tributes to masters (Klimt’s collection, portrait of Charlotte Salomon) and forever emotions (portraits of David Bowie or Amy Winehouse). Others are influenced by daily emotions Laure Simoneau perceives in every day’s life. Her performance to recreate these feelings through her sculptures is amazing; it fills the viewers’ perception with sudden tenderness, full harmony and complete admiration.
